Every year in January the European music professionals and music enthusiasts gather in the Netherlands for Eurosonic Noorderslag. This year the 32nd edition took place. For four days the centre of the European music scene is Groningen.
Eurosonic Noorderslag is one of the most important platforms for European music. For many acts, their performance at Eurosonic was a huge step forward in their international career. During the days there are a lot of different conferences for the professionals of the music industry. At night the sound of new talent spreads through Groningen.
The Popprijs 2017 went to Kensington. This pop award is handed out the the act that has meant the most for the Dutch pop scene over the last year and it’s the most important award handed out at Eurosonic Noorderslag. Kensington is easily one of the most popular Dutch bands. Last year they have sold out pop temple Ziggo Dome 5 times and this year they will be playing for 40.000 fans in the Amsterdam ArenA.
As you can see here, in the item the Dutch news made about them, the band was flown in from Rotterdam on a private jet to come and pick up the award.
The European Border Breakers Awards are also handed out at Eurosonic Noorderslag. These awards are handed out to emerging artists with great promises for the future. The big winner of the night was Kristian Kostov; he won the Public Choice Award. He takes over from last years winner, the now very well known Dua Lipa.
The other EBBA winners are Alice Merton (Germany), Alma (Finland), Blanche (Belgium), Off Bloom (Denmark), Salvador Sobral (Portugal), Sigrid (Norway), Skott (Sweden), The Blaze (France) and Youngr (UK).
We’d like to congratulate all winners; especially Kensington, who’s Amsterdam ArenA show will be managed by Friendly Fire who will be using our system.
